Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Greece Tigran Mkrtchyan was hosted online at a special course of the Hellenic Institute of Cultural Diplomacy, during which he delivered a lecture entitled ‘Cultural diplomacy in an era of turmoil.’ This is stated on the embassy's Facebook page.
In the first part of his lecture, Tigran Mkrtchyan presented cultural diplomacy as an integral part of public diplomacy, spoke about the basics of cultural diplomacy, brief background, actors, referred to the forms and types of expression of cultural diplomacy.
The second part of the lecture focused on the successful examples of cultural diplomacy in its diplomatic practice, which have made significant achievements in this or that country or have significantly contributed to them. In that context, they talked about large-scale cultural and diplomatic programs prior to the recognition of the Armenian Genocide in Latvia 2016-2021.
Answering the listeners of the course, among other questions, the Ambassador referred to the dangers threatening the Armenian cultural heritage in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), the cases of vandalism. In this context, the Ambassador stressed that Azerbaijan continues to violate all interim measures of the UN International Court of Justice, including on the Armenian cultural heritage.
The ambassador spoke about the resolution ‘On the destruction of cultural heritage in Nagorno-Karabakh’ adopted by the European Parliament on March 10.
Ambassador Mkrtchyan also spoke about the developments on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, as well as the developments in Artsakh, the actions of Azerbaijan violating the ceasefire agreement, in this context using the consistent calls of the international community, as well as practical steps as provocations, possible measures to prevent escalation.
