White House Communications Director Kate Bedingfield stated that the United States is not ready to talk about providing security guarantees to Ukraine, TASS reports.
“Obviously, we are working very closely with Ukraine on a wide array of options, things to help ensure we are - ensure their sovereignty and ensure their security. But I don’t have any specifics to preview for you on any — on any discussions about security guarantees,” said Bedingfield.
Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that Kyiv was in talks with Britain, Germany, the United States, Turkey and France on security guarantees.
He recalled Article 5 of the Washington Treaty, which states that if someone attacks one of the NATO member states, all other members are obliged to protect him.
According to Kuleba, Kyiv hopes for such a point, according to which, if any country attacks Ukraine, the countries guaranteeing its security must provide Ukraine with the necessary weapons within 24 hours, as well as adopt a UN Security Council resolution, which will demand an end to aggression and will apply sanctions.
