One of the measures aimed at maintaining employment in Russia, may be the introduction of a shortened working week. This was announced by Deputy Head of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia Alexander Shershukov.
Recently head Ministry of Labor and Social Protection Anton Kotyakov said that many companies are adjusting their activities against the backdrop of the withdrawal of foreign organizations from Russian markets. So, some of the workers were laid off. At the same time, according to him, mass layoffs are not planned. Employers said that 50,000 employees would be cut.
“In the event that the number of jobs is reduced, it may make sense to return to the topic that has already been discussed – this is a reduced working week. This topic hasn’t gone anywhere. Here the situation is as follows – a reduced number of jobs, more people apply for them. Perhaps it makes sense to reduce the duration of normal working hours in order to divide this rate without loss of wages among several workers,” Shershukov said during an interview with TASS.
He added that this idea should be discussed. Shershukov believes that the measure can be applied in the backbone sectors of the Russian economy.
