NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called for restraint in assessing the outcome of the talks between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations in Istanbul, RIA Novosti reports.
After talks in Istanbul yesterday, the Russian side announced that it was significantly reducing military activity in the direction of Kyiv and Chernigov and suggested the meeting of Presidents Putin and Zelensky at the same time as the initialing of the peace treaty by the Foreign Ministers of Russia and Ukraine.
“Let us be careful in assessing some positions,” Stoltenberg said in an interview with France’s Le Monde, commenting on Russia's desire to concentrate its forces in Donbas.
The leader of the alliance believes that Russia has underestimated the capabilities of the Ukrainian resistance, overestimating its own strength, which explains the commitment of Moscow to review its plans in line with the development of the conflict.
