Iran opposes imposition of unilateral sanctions against Russia, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said during the meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in China Wednesday, TASS reports.
"I would like to once again explicitly state that we totally oppose imposing unilateral and illegal sanctions against the Russian Federation," he said.
The minister noted the gradual development of Russian-Iranian relations and relayed President Ebrahim Raisi’s greetings to Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
"I am very glad to have an opportunity to meet with you. First of all, I would like to ask you to relay a warm greeting from President of Iran Ebrahim Raisi to President of Russia Vladimir Putin," he continued. "The bilateral relations of Russia and Iran are on the right course and are in development."
"I was informed that positive steps emerge in the talks between Russia and Ukraine," Abdollahian added.
He noted that, during the today’s negotiations, he will discuss bilateral and international issues with Lavrov, adding that he hopes to hear commentaries from the Russian side.
Lavrov arrived in China to participate in the third ministerial meeting of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries, which will take place on March 31. According to Russian Foreign Ministry, Lavrov will hold a number of negotiations with his foreign counterparts on March 30.
