The Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan has put Member of the Russian State Duma Mikhail Delyagin on the international wanted list, the ministry’s press service said on Wednesday.
A criminal case has been initiated under Article Articles 101.2 (Open calls to unleash an aggressive ear), 214.2.3 (Terrorism with the use of firearms and items used as weapons), 283.2.1 and 283.2.2 (Inciting national, racial, social or religious hatred and enmity) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
“The Azerbaijani side has applied to the relevant structures of a number of friendly states with a request to immediately detain him if he ends up on the territory of these countries,” the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office said.
The criminal case against the Russian MP was initiated after on the air of the federal TV channel “Russia-1” he urged the Russian Armed Forces to strike the oil infrastructure of Azerbaijan against the backdrop of the aggravation of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. In addition, Delyagin conducted a survey of similar content on his Telegram channel.
Commenting on the statement, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday that “it does not correspond in any way, it cannot correspond to Russia's official position.” Peskov urged Delyagin to restrain his personal feelings and not to make unfriendly statements to Azerbaijan, a partner state.
It later became known that the State Duma deputy had apologized for his harsh words about punishing Azerbaijan. The MP said that after the broadcast, he started receiving threats of terrorist acts from Azerbaijanis living in both Azerbaijan and Russia.
Delyagin also explained that his apology did not apply to Azerbaijani officials who decided to divert Russian forces from a special military operation in an attempt to open a second front in Nagorno-Karabakh.
RIA Novosti reports that the Standing Committee on International Relations of the State Duma issued a statement in which Azerbaijan considered the statement on the international search for Russian State Duma deputy Mikhail Delyagin a nervous and wrong decision, and called on the parties to show restraint.
