The future of Donetsk and Lugansk will be discussed during the talks between President of Russia Vladimir Putin and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. This was stated by Mykhailo Podolyak, Adviser to the Chief of Staff of the President of Ukraine, summing up the Russian-Ukrainian talks in Istanbul.
“These issues will be in a separate point of the agreement, and will be discussed within the framework of the talks between the presidents of Ukraine and Russia. We have more or less talked about all the disputable issues, our proposals have been presented,” he explained.
As for Crimea, according to Podolyak, the draft agreement proposes to stipulate that Ukraine and Russia will hold bilateral talks on the status of the peninsula for 15 years. At the same time, during these talks, the parties will not take military action to determine the fate of Crimea. A separate point is planned for Donetsk and Lugansk.
The Ukrainian side also put forward the idea of a new security system, which should be guaranteed by the member states of the UN Security Council, including Great Britain, China, the United States, France, Turkey, Germany, Poland and Israel. It is noteworthy that security guarantees will not apply to the Crimea, as well as to Donetsk and Luhansk.
