Hungary does not want to get involved in the Ukrainian conflict, as it contradicts the country's interests, Prime Minister of Hungary Victor Orban stated.
“It is quite clear that the Ukrainians are asking NATO countries to go to war in the air and send weapons. We are not Ukrainians, we are not Russians, we are Hungarians,” Orban said, commenting on accusations by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
According to him, Budapest's position is that Hungarians should not remain indifferent to human suffering due to the conflict in the neighboring country, but should look at the situation through the eyes of Hungary.
Speaking about possible sanctions against Russia in the energy sector, the head of the Hungarian government said that Moscow may not even notice them. He added that the extension of sanctions in the energy sector is not the best way to achieve peace. It is necessary to find diplomatic solutions.
Earlier, Volodymyr Zelensky accused Orban of not imposing sanctions on Russia, as well as of hesitating over the transit of weapons to Ukraine through Hungary.
