The United States is deeply concerned about the gas disruptions and about Azerbaijan’s troop movements. Armenia and Azerbaijan need to use direct communications channels to immediately deescalate. This was stated by the US Embassy to Armenia in response to a ‘Lurer’ inquiry about the damage to the Armenia-Artsakh gas pipeline, the disruption of gas supplies to Artsakh, and the recent Azerbaijani aggression.
“The United States remains committed to promoting a peaceful, democratic, and prosperous future for the South Caucasus region. Continued tensions in the region, including reported disruptions to local energy infrastructure, underscore the need for Armenia and Azerbaijan to intensify their diplomatic engagements.
This includes applying existing mechanisms for direct communication to find comprehensive solutions to all outstanding issues, and to normalize their relations through the conclusion of a comprehensive peace agreement.
The United States remains ready to assist Armenia and Azerbaijan with these efforts, including in our capacity as a Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group,” the statement reads.
