US President Joe Biden commented on situation in Ukraine during a press conference. He answered questions about the country's territorial concessions, the use of chemical weapons and Kyiv’s participation in G20.
Answering the question whether Kyiv should make concessions for the ceasefire, Biden said that such decisions depend only on the Ukrainian authorities, Ria Novosti reports.
“It completely depends on Ukraine, nothing will be solved without Ukraine's participation. They have to make a decision,” he said, adding that he hoped Kyiv would not compromise.
In addition, Biden invited Ukraine to participate in the G20 meetings. He clarified that it is possible in case of Russia’s expulsion from G20. However, Indonesia and other countries may oppose this initiative.
“I think we should ask Ukraine to be able to participate in G20 meetings, and to be an observer,” he said.
To the question whether Biden believes that NATO's actions will change Russia's decisions on the situation in Ukraine, the US President answered: "I did not say that. The answer is no.” Biden added that he asked to hold a NATO summit to preserve unity. He called on the West to unite against Russia.
Ukrainian MP Illia Kyva, who was deprived of his parliamentary mandate, commenting on US President Joe Biden's words that Kyiv itself should decide to make territorial concessions, said: “Now it is clear that the United States is washing its hands, and the fate of Ukraine is predetermined.”
