A very important decision was made at the EEU platform to zero customs duties on imports of a number of important goods, which will definitely have a positive impact on prices, said Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during the Government session.
“A really unprecedented decision was made during the March 17 session, depending on the situation, of course, but, nevertheless, we have been very careful in the list of goods exempt from customs duties, so that it does not suddenly run into the interests of our producers. I think we have a decision that will have only social significance. The customs duty on about 430 products is zeroed, which is, of course, a discreet decision for an average of six months, but, nevertheless, it will have a positive effect on prices. Certain revenues will be reduced in the budget on customs duties, but I think it will have a much greater effect on consumers,” said Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan.
Referring to other decisions, he mentioned that recently it was possible to reach quota solutions for cars with electric motors. In particular, Armenia has a privilege of 7,000 for 2022 and 8,000 cars for 2023.
“Let me remind you that we also exempt those cars from VAT. In fact, the citizens of the Republic of Armenia and the legal entities can buy and operate at factory prices,” said Mher Grigoryan, noting that a list of goods exempt from customs duties will be published in the near future, which will obviously curb the growth of prices.
