On 16 and 17 March, Director of Armenian Center for Humanitarian Demining and Expertise (CHDE) Vaghinak Sargsyan visited the CHDE clearance project in Darayya district, Rural Damascus Governorate, Syrian Arab Republic. The aim of the visit was to evaluate current activities, and plan the future activities. Director met with project senior management and operational staff, as well as with field operators, who are clearing the contaminated areas from explosive ordnance.
Since December 6, 2021, more than 124 300 sqm subsurface and 330 600 sqm surface area were cleared, 142 items of explosive ordnance were found and marked for subsequent destruction.
During the mission to Syria, coordination meeting took place with UN Mine Action Service (UNMAS) and UNOPS Headquarters delegation, represented by Stephen Pritchard, Chief of Programmes, Planning and Management, Salman Haq, UNOPS PSC Deputy Director, Jonas Chaudhary, UNOPS Senior Portfolio Manager, and UNMAS Syria Response Programme, Javed Habibulhaq, Chief Mine Action Programme and Artyom Harutyunyan, Chief of Operations.
On 17 December UNMAS and UNOPS HQ delegation visited CHDE working site, where the visitors were briefed and got acquainted with the implemented activities. UNMAS and UNOPS HQ delegation highly evaluated the Mine Action activities implemented by CHDE project management and clearance operators.
