Canadian Defense Minister Anita Anand believes that the issue of sending a NATO humanitarian mission to Ukraine can be discussed at a meeting of Defense Ministers in Brussels, Ria Novosti reports.
"We will discuss this issues today. At the moment, I support a peaceful resolution of this crisis based on the results of negotiations," she said, answering a question from journalists about Poland's proposal.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister of Poland, head of the ruling Law and Justice party Jarosław Kaczyński, proposed sending a NATO mission or a mission of a broader composition to Ukraine.
According to him, such a mission is needed to provide humanitarian assistance, but at the same time, it must be protected by the armed forces.
However, Dutch Defense Minister Kajsa Ollongren told reporters that it was too early to talk about sending a NATO mission to Ukraine as long as battles were taking place there.
"It is very difficult to carry out a peacekeeping mission there when there is a war," he said. According to Ollongren, in order to discuss this idea, one must wait for the end of battles.
Earlier, the alliance has repeatedly stated that NATO supports Ukraine, but does not intend to directly intervene in the conflict.
