Aviation is one of the sectors most affected by sanctions against the Russian economy. Western countries have imposed tough sanctions on Russian airlines. The planes that companies use for long-term lease are especially vulnerable, BBC reports.
These planes are registered in foreign registries, and their flights depend on the documents provided by those registries. Foreign companies may ban flights on those planes or demand their return.
New sanctions have been imposed on Russian airlines over the past week. Authorities in Bermuda, which has more than 700 aircraft registered in Russia, have revoked their certificates of airworthiness.
To avoid this, the Russian authorities have begun to work out a regulation that should protect Russian airlines, allow them to operate flights inside Russia, and to some countries.
