Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the two houses of the US Congress in a virtual format on Wednesday. Yesterday, he addressed a video message to the Canadian Parliament, where many Ukrainians live, TASS reports.
Zelensky called on US lawmakers to tighten sanctions on Russia, as well as to provide more military assistance to Ukraine, in particular, the provision of air defense systems, including the S-300.
The President of Ukraine said that the fate of his country is being decided right now, against the background of Russia's special military operation. He said, “Every day Kyiv is subjected to rocket and air strikes by Russian troops, and Ukraine is in the worst war since World War II.”
Zelensky drew the attention of US lawmakers to the need to create a no-fly zone over Ukraine or to provide it with military aircraft so that the country could independently defend its airspace.
Speaking about the sanctions, the President of Ukraine called on all American companies to leave the Russian market and close American ports for Russian cargo ships.
Zelensky thanked the US authorities, personally President Joe Biden, for imposing sanctions on Russia and for aid, in particular, the supply of weapons. However, he called on the members of both houses of the US Congress to "do more" to support the Ukrainian authorities.
