The United States will continue to support the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia as long as Kyiv participates in them. The statement came from White House Spokeswoman Jen Psaki during a briefing.
“We are trying to boost them by providing a range of not just economic and humanitarian assistance, but military assistance that we believe strengthens Kyiv’s positions in these talks,” Psaki says.
She reminded that the United States has provided more military assistance to the Ukrainian military and the Ukrainian government than any other country in the world and more historic assistance than any other year to Ukraine in history. And we’re doing that so that we can support them in this difficult moment.
The White House Spokeswoman noted that Washington does not see any tendency to reduce tensions between Russia and Ukraine. Psaki reaffirmed that the United States would not send troops to Ukraine to fight Russia. “Putting U.S. troops on the ground in Ukraine to fight a war with Russia is not in our national security interests.”
Referring to the issue of energy, Psaki said that they still believe gas prices will continue to go up, but they’re “trying to take steps they can take to mitigate that and reduce it.”
