On March 15 , the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Defense and Security Andranik Kocharyan met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Estonia to Armenia Riina Kaljurand, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia Ingrida Leverence, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Lithuania Inga Stanytė-Toločkienė, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Finland Kirsti Narinen and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Norway Helene Sand Andresen.
At the meeting the reforms being implemented in the sphere of defense and security, the geopolitical and regional developments in our country were touched upon.
Andranik Kocharyan has referred to the consequences of the 44-day war unleashed by Azerbaijan, noting that that country continues violating the provisions of the trilateral statement signed on 9 November 2020, not returning the Armenian prisoners of war and other held persons, resuming the bellicose rhetoric. The Committee Chair highlighted the efforts aimed at the establishment of peace in the region with the assistance of the international community.
Presenting the steps being taken in the spheres of security, emergency situations, in police, in the armed forces and the national security service, Andranik Kocharyan has noted that in the implementation of the reforms our country regularly carries out discussions with the international counterparts. The Committee Chair presented in detail particularly the agenda of the reforms in the armed forces, his vision in the army building process, emphasizing the cooperation with the Nordic-Baltic countries in the sphere of defense.
At the guests’ request Andranik Kocharyan related to the delimitation and demarcation process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations and the situation created around Ukraine.
