US President Joe Biden has banned the sale or supply of dollar-denominated banknotes to Russia. This is stated in the statement of the White House. The US Treasury Department clarified that the ban will not apply to US citizens who want to transfer cash to Russia for personal use or transfer to any person living in Russia.
The import of alcoholic beverages, diamonds and seafood from Russia, as well as the supply of a number of expensive goods to Russia will be banned. According to Biden, it will cause $ 1 billion in damage to Russia.
In his speech, the White House Spokeswoman noted that the United States and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) are not going to launch military operations against Russia in Ukraine, but will defend the territory of NATO allies if necessary.
“For that purpose, we have sent 12,000 troops to the border with Russia. However, a direct confrontation between NATO and Russia means World War III. It must be prevented," Biden said.
The US President also said that he had a telephone conversation with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, to discuss the possibility of assistance to Ukraine in humanitarian, economic and other spheres. “I have informed Zelensky about the actions we are taking with the G7 and the European Union,” Biden said.
According to Zelensky, the presidents agreed to support Ukraine in the field of defense and impose new sanctions on Russia.
