“Moscow will not tolerate attempts to replace international law with the rules imposed by Western countries”, the announcement of the Russian Foreign Ministry says.
Russia's withdraw from the Council of Europe implies simultaneous repeal of the European Council charter and European convention of human rights. Russia’s membership will expire at the end of fiscal year, Senator Konstantin Kosachev, the Vice-Chairman of the Federation Council of the RF Federal Assembly announced.
Andrey Klishas, the Deputy of the Federal Council added that the move will also ban Russians from filing claims to the European Court of Human Rights. At the same time, according to him, Russia’s withdraw from the council will not affect Russians in any way. He says that the legal standards are much higher in Russia than in the organization. Klishas called on Russians to apply to Russian courts more actively, including the Russian Constitutional Court.
