Kyiv is ready to discuss the issues of abandoning NATO membership, but this requires security guarantees, said Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine.
“We are ready for constructive negotiations on key points. The main thing is, of course, security, the cessation of hostilities,” Podolyak was quoted as saying by strana.ua in his telegram channel.
He noted that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky is not afraid to talk with the Russian side about any political issues. But Kyiv wants a “clear and specific, legally binding set” of guarantees for its security at a time when NATO has openly stated that it will not accept Ukraine.
“It’s pointless to talk about the details now. Now the main thing is to physically protect Ukraine,” Podolyak stressed.
He added that Kyiv does not perceive any “Russian ultimatums” as such, writes RIA Novosti.
Earlier, Zelensky said in an interview with ABC News that he was ready for dialogue with Russia, but not ready for surrender. According to him, it is possible to find a compromise with the Russian Federation on the points on “temporarily occupied territories and unrecognized republics.” Zelensky also said that he had lost interest in the issue of Ukraine’s possible membership in NATO.
