Turkey is determined to use its powers under the Montreux Convention to navigate ships through the Straits. With this step, Turkey intends to prevent the further escalation of the crisis between Russia and Ukraine. President of Turkey Erdogan stated this in his televised address, Anadolu reports.
According to the President of Turkey, Ankara continues “multilateral diplomatic initiatives aimed at ensuring peace and stability in the region.”
Erdogan also stressed that Turkey considers Russia's invasion of Ukraine unacceptable and praises the struggle of the Ukrainian leadership and people.
Commenting on the situation, Erdogan stressed. “No one should doubt that we will overcome the crisis in the north of the Black Sea, like all the challenges that our country has faced recently.”
In his speech, Erdogan noted that Turkey will not give up its national interests and at the same time will not ignore the regional and global balance.
Erdogan also said that Ankara has always fulfilled its obligations within the institutions and alliances of which it is a part, first of all, UN, NATO and EU.
