Georgia does not want a repeat of the 2008 war, Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani said on Monday, commenting on Tbilisi's refusal to join sanctions against Russia, RIA Novosti reported.
Foreign Minister Zalkaliani noted that they have a responsibility for the people.
"When Russian troops are 40 km away, they do not need additional mobilization, which was carried out in Ukraine. Russian troops are nearby, it will take them a few minutes to turn the whole of Georgia upside down. It makes us responsible. I do not want to see in Georgia what I saw in 2008, I do not want to see Russian tanks moving to Tbilisi, the bombing of the capital's airport, I do not want the Georgians to be expelled from Russia by cargo plane," Zalkaliani said.
Earlier, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced that the country would not join the financial and economic sanctions imposed on Russia by the West. Following the announcement, protests took place in Tbilisi demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister.
