Eduard Aghajanyan, MP of the ‘Civil Contract’ faction of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, addressed the winter session of the OSCE PA.
The speech particularly says:
“Madam President, dear colleagues,
We are all really concerned about the developments in Ukraine, because any war is a tragedy with many lost lives and deprivations.
Similarly, the aggressive war unleashed by Azerbaijan on September 27, 2020, during the global pandemic, had its tragic consequences, seriously undermining the credibility of the OSCE.
More than a year after the signing of the trilateral ceasefire declaration on November 9, 2020, the prospects for peace in our region are still uncertain. Azerbaijan continues its aggressive actions, which are manifested in the invasion of the sovereign territory of Armenia, continuous military aggravation along the state border, ceasefire violations, illegal detention of Armenian prisoners of war (POWs), captivity of civilians, destruction of Armenian cultural heritage. All this cannot be considered as Azerbaijan's readiness to create an atmosphere of trust.
Unlike Azerbaijan, Armenia has repeatedly proven that it is ready to take real steps to establish lasting peace in the region. We believe that in order to achieve this goal, the parties must first fulfill their obligations set out in the trilateral statements signed by the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan and the Russia.
Unfortunately, there is an obvious contradiction between the real actions and Azerbaijan's intention for peaceful coexistence.
Azerbaijan continues to falsify or distort the provisions of trilateral agreements, sometimes even arrogantly inventing new ones that have nothing to do with the content or spirit of these documents. One such imaginary provision is the so-called ‘Zangezur Corridor’, which cannot be found in any of the three trilateral statements and which poses a direct threat and terrorism against Armenia's sovereignty.
Dear Colleagues,
The current situation in Nagorno-Karabakh is the result of a clear violation by Azerbaijan of several key principles of the Helsinki Final Act, including the non-use of force or the threat of force, as well as the peaceful settlement of conflicts.
No one should have the illusion that the consequences of the use of force, with war crimes and violations of international civil law, can ever be the basis for lasting peace.
Such peace in the region can only be achieved through a comprehensive settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.
Thank you.”
