Russian President Vladimir Putin received an appeal from the State Duma on the recognition of "Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics", Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov stated, TASS reports.
According to Peskov, Putin took into account the appeal of the State Duma.
"There are no clear regulations in this regard. The President received the appeal, he responded to it, he took it into account... Recognition of Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics does not correlate with the Minsk agreements," he said.
As it was reported earlier, the State Duma of the Russian Federation will appeal to Vladimir Putin to recognize the Donetsk and Luhansk "People's Republics".
In this regard, Ukraine requested the OSCE to convene urgent extraordinary consultations of the Trilateral Contact Group. It is noted that the Ukrainian delegation wants to receive official information from Russia on the position and next steps based on the decision of the Russian legislature.
The EU claimed it would impose sanctions against Russia if it recognizes so-called "people's republics" in Donbas.
Due to Russian Parliament's intention to launch the official recognition of republics in Donbas, Ukraine's representative in the UN Serhiy Kyslytsia sent an appeal to UN Secretary-General Anotnio Guterres and all member states. In the document, the official insisted that there are certain consequences to that decision, if made eventually.
