Presidential election campaign has started in Turkmenistan on February 14. The first stage of the campaign is nomination of candidates, RIA Novosti reported.
Political parties registered before the elections were scheduled and groups of citizens may nominate presidential candidates.
There are 3 political parties in Turkmenistan - Democratic Party of Turkmenistan, Agrarian Policy of Turkmenistan, Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan.
A presidential candidate should be supported with at least 10,000 signatures of citizens.
A presidential candidate should be a citizen of Turkmenistan, who was born in Turkmenistan, above 40 years, fluent in Turkmen language, who lived in worked in the country for last 15 consecutive years.
The President is elected by people of the country for a 7-year term.
Last presidential elections were held in Turkmenistan in 2017. Eight candidates ran in those elections.
