The USA Embassy in Azerbaijan commented the new law on media, which Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed.
The embassy called on the Azerbaijani government to apply the new law according to the OSCE standards and international commitments.
“We are concerned that new law on the media was adopted and signed not taking into account the independent reporters, media experts and international companies, including OSCE and the European Court. We continue to study the law signed by Aliyev and are looking forward to the analysis of the law by the experts. We call on the government to apply the new law according to the commitments in the framework of the OSCE and other international organizations”, the Official Representative of the Embassy mentioned.
