Six UN Security Council member states - Russia, China, India, Mexico, Ghana and Gabon - have not joined the US-sponsored statement on North Korea. US Permanent Representative to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield made the statement.
Following a closed-door meeting, the United States, Britain, France, Ireland, Japan, Norway, the United Arab Emirates, Albania and Brazil issued a joint statement.
"The DPRK's January 30 launch of an intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) is a significant escalation in the DPRK's recent violations of multiple Security Council resolutions and seeks to further destabilize the region. We condemn this unlawful action in the strongest terms," US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield said in a joint statement.
China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations has called on the United States to be more flexible in its relations with North Korea.
“The United States should offer more attractive, more practical, more flexible approaches, policies and actions that take into account the interests of the DPRK,” Reuters quoted the diplomat as saying.
