On February 3, Armenia's Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe Arman Khachatryan met with Tiny Cox, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). This was reported by the Permanent Representation of Armenia to the Council of Europe.
Congratulating Tiny Cox on his election as PACE President, Ambassador Khachatryan emphasized the important mission of the PACE in the protection of human rights, the strengthening of democracy and the rule of law in Europe, as a pan-European platform for political discussions.
The importance of the "Activities of Democratic Institutions in Armenia" resolution adopted during the PACE winter session was highlighted, which reaffirmed that Armenia has made significant progress in the development of democracy.
In this context, it was mentioned that in the same resolution, the Assembly reaffirmed the imperative of the return of Armenian prisoners of war, the necessity to preserve cultural heritage, as well as the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group.
Ambassador Khachatryan briefed the PACE President on the humanitarian consequences of the war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh, including the issue of repatriation of Armenian prisoners of war and other detainees. The continuous role of the PACE in raising and resolving these issues was discussed.
