US senators are ready to agree on a bill to impose sanctions on Russia in connection with its alleged actions against Ukraine. Moreover, some restrictions may be applied even before the possible Russian invasion. This was announced on Sunday, January 30, on CNN by the head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Democrat Robert Menendez, and leading Republican in that committee, James Risch.
At the same time, the US administration does not rule out a Russian-American dialogue. US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland told CBS News that Washington sees signs of Moscow's interest in dialogue, so it is possible that Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will hold talks next week.
