Summarizing the work done in 2021, the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) State Service for the Protection of the Historical Environment SNCO reported that about 2,000 monuments remained in the occupied territories due to the war unleashed by Azerbaijan in the fall of 2020.
In 2021, work was carried out to preserve, popularize and study historical and architectural immovable monuments, historical environment and other cultural values, as well as to monitor and collect information on the condition of monuments in the occupied territories.
Relevant tours were carried out by the guardians of the monuments, cleaning and improvement works of the monument area were organized.
In this regard, the focus was on the most visited tourist attractions.
During the reporting period, there were four regional services: Askeran, Martakert, Martuni, Shushi.
During the reporting year, the regional service discovered about 200 newly discovered monuments in Martakert and Askeran regions, including khachkars (cross-stones), tombstones and church-chapels. Some have protocols, and some – important information.
