We want to establish diplomatic relations with Turkey without preconditions. Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan informed about this during today's press conference.
“Do we want to open the Armenia-Turkey border? Yes, and we are sincere in that position. It did not work then, now we must try to take into account the previous experience. At that time, the President from Turkey and the President of Armenia from Armenia conducted the negotiations. But at that time Turkey was a country of parliamentary rule. It is true that the President of Turkey was a representative of the ruling political team, but, nevertheless, he was not the head of the country, he was the Prime Minister. The dialogue is now taking place under a mandate given by the President of Turkey. That is to say, this is one of the parameters, which can have a certain impact on the process. Let us hope it is positive,” he said.
Nikol Pashinyan also mentioned that in the whole process Armenia’s authorities conduct an open, transparent working style towards the public.
“The whole process was in front of the Armenian society. If all the details are fully opened, then the diplomatic process will lead to a deadlock and failure. We do not have a secret from the public, our policy will be in the field of public announcements. But leaking working information will not do any good,” said the Prime Minister.
