President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev announced that from today he will become the head of the Security Council of the republic, Ria Novosti reports.
The head of country announced such a decision in his second address to the nation in a day against the backdrop of riots unfolding throughout the country. Earlier, the chairman of the Security Council was the first President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev.
A video recording of Tokayev's speech was circulated on social networks.
“The measures I have taken are aimed at the well-being of multinational Kazakhstan.
But these measures are still insufficient. The high level of organization of the hooligan elements draws attention. This indicates a carefully thought-out plan of actions of the conspirators who are financially motivated. It is the conspirators,” the President said.
He pointed out that as a result of the confrontations, law enforcement officers were killed and wounded, so the authorities will henceforth act as harshly as possible in relation to the violators.
Tokayev stressed that he was in the capital together with the people and promised to come up with new proposals to resolve the situation in the near future.
The President added that he remains on the same position of consistent reforms and expressed confidence that the people will support him.
