The reports in the media about the skirmish on the border of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan are unreliable. This is stated in a statement issued by the Turkmen embassy in Kabul on Tuesday, TASS reports.
"On January 3, 2022, unconfirmed and unreliable information about the situation on the Turkmen-Afghan border appeared in some media outlets," the statement said.
The diplomatic mission stressed that Ashgabat maintains good-neighborly relations with Afghanistan in accordance with the status of neutrality. “The Turkmen-Afghan border is the border of friendship. On a regular basis, coordinated actions are carried out with the Afghan side to maintain peace on the Turkmen-Afghan border,” the embassy stressed.
Earlier, the Afghan newspaper Hasht e Subh reported that on January 3, a shootout took place between the Turkmen border guards and the Taliban on the border of the two states.
