President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed the decree about the sanctions against two Ukrainian TV channels, Pershiy Nezalezhniy and UkrLive. The document was signed on December 28, 112 UA reports.
Specifically, the president activated the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine about the sanctions against three companies - Novyny media holding, Time Media, Teleprostir.
The sanctions include the ban of radio frequencies, blocking the assets and all sortds of activity in Ukraine.
The sanctions are eligible for five years.
Time Media company is actually the Pershiy Nezalezhniy TV channel created by reporters of 112, NewsOne and ZiK TV channels. Teleprostir is the joint stock company that belongs to MP Nestor Shufrych, the TV company that broadcasts as UKRLIVE. Unlike Pershiy Nezalezhniy, UkrLive has not been banned from broadcasting before. However, it seems that now, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine decided to illegally halt its broadcasting.
Earlier, at the Eastern Partnership summit in Brussels they raised the issue of extrajudicial persecution of opposition media in Ukraine and demanded that Volodymyr Zelenski cancel the unlawful sanctions of the National Security and Defense Council, which blocked the broadcasting of three leading news TV channels - 112 Ukraine, NewsOne and ZIK, as well as Pershiy Nezalezhniy that was illegally shut down within one hour after the start of broadcasting - without the court's decision.
