The Government of South Korea has demanded this Monday that North Korea start the year 2022 with an openness to dialogue and cooperation, in view of the meeting that the Korean Labor Party will hold in Pyongyang in the coming days to address the situation National and international, Paudal reports.
“We hope that North Korea will start the new year by opening the door for dialogue with the international community and taking a step forward for action and cooperation,” said Lee Jong Joo, spokesman for the South Korean Ministry of Unification.
Thus, he stressed that the plenary meeting of the Korean Labor Party has generally been held “for between one and four days, with the participation of the leader, Kim Jong Un, as reported by the South Korean news agency Yonhap.
The North Korean ruling party recently stressed that the central committee meeting will take place “in the last third of December” with the aim of “discussing and making decisions on the work plans for the new year.”
Nuclear talks between North Korea and the United States stalled after the 2019 summit in Vietnam’s capital Hanoi and have not revived despite calls from Washington and Seoul.
Seoul and Pyongyang resumed direct talks in 2018 and in October the connection was reestablished through the inter-Korean communication line, after which both countries have discussed the possibility of taking new steps for a rapprochement that has not yet materialized.
