Today we mark 30 years of U.S. recognition of Armenian independence, the Facebook page of US Embassy to Armenia reports.
The United States recognized Armenia’s independence on December 25, 1991 when President George H.W. Bush announced the decision in an address to the nation regarding the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
U.S.-Armenian relations go back much further. During the brief period of Armenia’s independence in 1918-1920, the United States recognized the independence of the Armenian Republic on April 23, 1920.
