RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan answers the questions of the media and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO).
"After the December 15 meeting in Brussels, you announced that the Yeraskh-Julfa-Meghri-Horadiz railway will be reopened. After the trilateral meetings initiated by the EU and the Russian side, in fact, concrete results were achieved only in the issue of railways. What is the main obstacle that no agreement is reached on unblocking the highways? "Did Azerbaijan make any other demands during the closed-door meetings in Brussels?" RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan answered the question of the Public Television:
“I have marked the "red lines" of the Armenian side, the meaning of which is that we do not accept any logic in the corridor. What we agreed or talked about in the railways in Brussels was the summary of the conversation that started in Sochi. The protocol there was the following - there will be full customs and border control on both sides, which is acceptable for us, acceptable for Azerbaijan, we have now agreed to start the construction of the railway. Our principled position regarding the highways has remained the same.
But in Brussels, I and the President of Azerbaijan tried to go into details, we tried to understand the reason why we express such positions. Publicly sounding positions are the happy side of the iceberg, but there are problems due to which we express this or that position.
When we went into the details, during the discussions of those details, I saw an opportunity there that we can come to certain solutions, where our positions and the purely practical problems put forward by Azerbaijan can actually be solved, but we have no agreement on this.
After that meeting, I saw certain opportunities and we must try to use those opportunities in order to find a real compromise solution to this issue, which does not cross the "red lines" I have mentioned."
