The Senate, the Upper House of the Parliament of Kazakhstan passed a law for making changes and additions in the legislation on the abolition of the death penalty. The changes suggest excluding the death penalty from all articles of the Criminal Code, the Parliament of the country informs.
“The complete elimination of death penalty in Kazakhstan Republic will contribute to the harmonization of national legislation with the accepted international legal obligations, the provision of human rights and the guarantee of the highest constitutional value - the right to life”, the Senate’s relevant committee made clear.
From now on, the heaviest penalty in Kazakhstan Criminal Code will be the life imprisonment.
