The new Mayor of Yerevan is Hrachya Sargsyan.
The majority of the members of the Council of Elders voted for his candidacy in a closed, secret ballot in the City Hall. Sargsyan was elected Mayor of Yerevan with 44 ‘for’ and 10 ‘against’ votes, and three ballots were invalid.
“I would like to thank Mr. Mayor Hayk Marutyan for the opportunity to work with him. During 3 years, we have started different reforms in different spheres. The reforms we started were underway and we will continue for the benefit of the city of Yerevan,” said Hrachya Sargsyan.
Today, the Yerevan Council of Elders convened a special session. The issue of expressing no confidence in Hayk Marutyan and appointing Hrachya Sargsyan Mayor was discussed.
