The Chinese authorities plan to apply countermeasures against US pressure, which are envisaged by the recently adopted law in China on countering unilateral sanctions. This was announced on Tuesday, December 21, by the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Zhao Lijian, Perild reports.
“The United States, under the pretext of so-called problems of human rights violations in Xinjiang, is applying illegal sanctions against Chinese officials. In connection with such erroneous actions of the American side, China decided to apply mirror measures against the United States on the basis of the Foreign Sanctions Counteraction Law,” Lijian said at the briefing.
According to the diplomat, Washington is disregarding the fundamental principles of the development of international relations, striking a blow at the Sino-American contacts.
We will remind, last week, the United States introduced new sanctions against China for human rights violations, in particular – for the oppression of the Chinese Uyghurs.
It was also reported that sanctions against China were imposed by the United States, Canada and Britain. Restrictive measures have been introduced against top officials in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China.
