The participation of the former Soviet Union in NATO programs should not be compared with its integration into its political and military infrastructure.
The statement came from Dmitry Peskov, Press Secretary for the Russian President, in response to a reporter's question about Russia's position on cooperation with the former Soviet Union, including Russia's allies Kazakhstan and Armenia. The journalist asked how admissible it was.
“These are completely different issues. You know that with most of the countries of the former Soviet Union, we have allied obligations within the CSTO and other structures. In that sense, of course, we have addressed all these issues many times, and discussions continue,” Peskov said.
According to him, the admissibility of cooperation between these countries and NATO depends on specific programs, as well as the nature and depth of their participation.
