On December 20, the RA NA Head of the Armenia-Iran Friendship Group Gevorg Papoyan and the members of the group met with the members of the delegation led by the Head of the Iran- Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Majlis of the Islamic Republic of Iran Seyed Mahdi Farshadan.
According to the Head of the Friendship Group, Armenia attaches importance to the further deepening of centuries-old relations with the friendly Iran, aimed at peace and development in the region.
“Next year, we will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between our countries. During this period, the relations between our countries were built on the basis of mutual trust and mutual respect,” the deputy has underlined and has added, that the parliamentary friendship groups have a unique role on the issue of deepening the inter-parliamentary cooperation.
Gevorg Papoyan has highly appreciated the warm attitude of the Iranian authorities and people towards the Armenian community, noting that the Armenians have an active role in the public-political, cultural life of that country.
The Head of the Friendship Group has thanked the Iranian authorities for showing caring attitude towards the Armenian cultural heritage, which cannot be said about the Armenian cultural and spiritual heritage of Artsakh, being under the control of Azerbaijan, According to Gevorg Papoyan, they are destroyed and modified by the order of the Azerbaijani authorities, aimed at eliminating the trace of centuries-old Armenian history from Artsakh.
Gevorg Papoyan has referred to the post-war situation, stating that Azerbaijan continues provocative actions against the RA sovereign territory. Despite the created situation, Armenia continues to make efforts to establish lasting peace in the region: the deputy noted. In this process, he underlined the role of Iran.
In the context of the development of the inter-state relations, Seyed Mahdi Farshadan particularly highlighted the role of the parliamentary diplomacy.
“Any change in geopolitical and territorial integrity is unacceptable for us. We support those agreements that have been reached in November, 2020,” the Head of the Friendship Group stated.
During the meeting, the issues related to the development of the bilateral economic relations, the expansion of the cooperation in the fields of agriculture, energy and other ones were discussed. Both sides underlined the necessity to increase the volume of trade. They also touched upon the development of joint production, as well as the importance of implementing various investment programmes.
