Armenia’s Prosecutor General Arthur Davtyan delivered a speech on December 14 within the framework of the 9th session of the UN Convention against Corruption held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
The Armenian Prosecutor General noted that the fight against corruption in Armenia is of strategic nature, one of the main tasks of which is the introduction of an institutional model with new anti-corruption structures.
In the context of preventing corruption, the introduction of institutional tools for checking the property, income, expenses, interests of officials in the judiciary and the prosecutor's office in the judiciary was emphasized.
“The growing trend of exporting corruption, bribing officials in charge of foreign and interstate organizations poses additional challenges to the implementation of human rights, democratic governance and the sustainable development of societies, with an extremely negative impact on regional peace and stability. Many crimes, including war crimes against humanity, are hidden under the guise of such bribery and corruption, creating an atmosphere of impunity.
This became particularly significant during the military aggression against the people of Nagorno-Karabakh last year, which was accompanied by war crimes against the civilian population of Artsakh and the involvement of several thousand foreign terrorists from well-known Middle Eastern terrorist organizations. Therefore, in order to prevent and counteract such crimes in a timely manner, it is very important to respond to the above-mentioned tendencies,” Arthur Davtyan said in his speech.
At the same time, Davtyan emphasized the need to strengthen democracies at the national level, the development of states, and the fight against a phenomenon that has a serious negative impact on regional security, such as the export of corruption to international platforms.
Armenia’s Prosecutor General underlined the full readiness of the Prosecutor's Office in deepening the international cooperation in the fight against corruption.
