On December 15, the Chairman of the Armenian Parliament’s Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Eduard Aghajanyan received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Estonia to the Republic of Armenia Rina Kalyurand (residence in Tbilisi).
The head of the Armenia-Estonia friendship group Anush Beghloyan, as well as the envoy Peter Pals took part in the meeting. Welcoming the Ambassador, Eduard Aghajanyan noted that there are warm and friendly relations between the two countries, in terms of the expansion of which the inter-parliamentary relations, in particular the close work of the parliamentary friendship groups, are important.
As head of the Armenia-Estonia Friendship Group, Anush Beghloyan highlighted the issues of activating contacts between the legislators and extending the working agenda in the near future. The chair of the committee presented the post-war situation and the challenges in the region. Eduard Aghajanyan referred to the provocations carried out by Azerbaijan, the violations of the provisions enshrined in a trilateral statement.
The Armenian parliamentarians noted that the most important issue on the agenda remains the return of Armenian prisoners of war and captives. In this context, Eduard Aghajanyan appreciated the clear position of the Estonian Parliament's Friendship Group with Armenia on the return of prisoners of war.
Speaking about the Armenia-EU cooperation, the head of the Armenia-Estonia Friendship Group Anush Beghloyan highlighted Estonia's support for the effective and full implementation of the Comprehensive Extended Partnership Agreement.
The Ambassador stressed the need to deepen inter-parliamentary ties, intensify mutual visits, as well as to develop cooperation in a number of spheres.
The parties discussed the importance of security issues and the establishment of lasting peace in the region.
The interlocutors also discussed the possibilities of expanding the Armenian-Estonian cooperation, in particular the cooperation, the forthcoming work within the framework of a number of structures and organizations.
