Answering the questions of the opposition MPs in the Parliament, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu referred to the recent decision of the Council of Europe on the release of businessman, human rights activist Osman Kavala, Ermenihaber reports.
According to him, the Turkish courts have upheld the decision of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in the case of Kavala, and the human rights activist is currently in prison for other criminal cases.
According to Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, the ECHR decisions are valid for all 47 CE member states.
“France has not implemented the decisions of the ECHR for 10 years. Norway, one of the leading democratic countries, has not done so for two years, and Germany for five years,” Çavuşoğlu said. He complained that the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe targets Turkey and applies double standards.
