Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili left for Brussels to participate in the Eastern Partnership summit to be held on December 15. Tbilisi hopes to gain access to the European Union's single market, the press service of the Georgian Government said on Tuesday, TASS reports.
“The Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili, at the invitation of the President of the European Council [Charles Michel], the President of the European Commission [Ursula von der Leyen] and the Prime Minister of Slovenia presiding over the Council of the European Union, [Janez Janša], will take part in the Eastern Partnership Summit to be held In Brussels on December 15. The Georgian side expects that such important issues as gradual integration with the single market of the European Union will be noted,” the statement reads.
Tbilisi also hopes that the summit will endorse an ambitious agenda that will help strengthen security, economy, society, environmental protection and digital transformation mechanisms. The new agenda will cover the achievement of specific goals, which will be implemented through the new EU Regional Investment Plan. For Georgia, this means strengthening transport, digital and energy ties, including by maximizing the potential of the Black Sea, the Georgian government added.
Garibashvili will also hold high-level bilateral talks in Brussels, including with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. The Georgian delegation includes Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani and Head of the Georgian Government Administration Ilya Darchiashvili.
