Armenia’s Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Vahram Dumanyan received the delegation led by the representative of the UNICEF Armenia Office Christine Weigand.
Vahram Dumanyan expressed readiness to deepen the effective cooperation between the two structures in the context of responding to the challenges in the field of general education and solving the existing problems. The Minister stated that at present large-scale reforms are being implemented in the spheres of Education, Science, Culture and Sports (ESCS), particularly pointing out the changes envisaged in the Law on General Education and the Strategy for the Development of Education project.
Christine Weigand, the representative of the UNICEF Armenia Office, in her turn noted that the sphere of education is one of the four main directions, which has been fixed within the framework of cooperation with the Government of the Republic of Armenia for the next four years. She stressed that there is a long-term and effective cooperation experience with ESCS, emphasizing that the areas of coordination of the Ministry are really very wide, from pre-school education to science, culture, sports and youth.
Christine Weigand stated that the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports is currently actively cooperating with the United Nations Children's Fund in the framework of the Global Partnership in Education (GPE) program, which aims to support public education reform by bringing together international partner organizations, civil society and private foundations. Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia Zhanna Andreasyan praised the content and technical assistance of the UNICEF Armenia Office in the provision of continuing education and distance education.
A number of issues related to universal inclusion, teacher training, non-formal education, youth, as well as out-of-school children were also discussed during the meeting.
