The new variant of the coronavirus Omicron, which has already been found in 20 countries around the world, has not yet caused death. The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) emergency program Michael Ryan spread such statistics. His words are quoted by Regnum agency.
He clarified that the study of the new variant will take several weeks to finally determine the degree of its infectivity, the possibility of causing a severe course of the disease.
WHO does not rule out the possibility that Omicron could replace other types of coronavirus; in the near future, half of patients in Europe will be infected with this variant of COVID-19.
Earlier, WHO assessed the course of COVID-19 in those infected with the Omicron variant. Experts have concluded that COVID-19 is milder in those infected with the new variant. According to scientists, this is due to the fact that the process of going through the whole cycle, from infection to complete recovery, takes longer.
