The German Green Party, which opposes the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project, called the new US sanctions against the gas pipeline unacceptable.
“The new US sanctions are also unacceptable for the opponents of Nord Stream 2. It is we, the “greens” who have always fought with the pipeline, who cannot understand what kind of friendship they are striving for (USA.- “B”) and in which sanctions fall on friends if they do business with third parties, ”said Omid Nuripur, a member of the faction and member of the Bundestag International Affairs Committee (quoted by DW).
On November 16, Germany suspended the certification of Nord Stream 2 AG as the operator of Nord Stream 2. On November 22, the United States announced restrictions against the Cypriot company Transadria Ltd., whose vessel was involved in the construction of Nord Stream 2. Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov linked the expansion of sanctions on Nord Stream 2 with unfair competition.
The State Department promised to continue work to curb the launch of the Russian gas pipeline. The Russian Foreign Ministry said that for Moscow the gas pipeline is an exclusively economic project and is not going to be used for geopolitical purposes. The Kremlin called the new US sanctions illegal and inappropriate.
