On November 24, Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan received the newly appointed Ambassador of Germany to Armenia Victor Richter on the occasion of presenting the copy of his credentials. Congratulating Victor Richter on assuming the position, Ararat Mirzoyan expressed confidence that the Ambassador's activities will contribute to the further development of Armenian-German relations.
The interlocutors discussed the prospects of promoting the trade and economic ties between the two countries, especially in the fields of energy, education, science and culture. In this regard, the role of the Armenian-German Intergovernmental Commission on Financial and Technical Cooperation was emphasized.
The consistent democratic reforms in Armenia were also touched upon. The importance of extraordinary parliamentary elections, assessed as free and transparent by respective international observation missions, was emphasized.
Victor Richter noted that Germany will continue to promote democratic reforms in Armenia, especially the strengthening of the civil society institutions.
The Foreign Minister of Armenia presented to the Ambassador of Germany the situation resulting from the aggression of the Azerbaijani armed forces against the sovereign territory of Armenia, and emphasized the need for a proper and targeted response from the international community, in order to exclude the further escalation of the situation and new provocative actions by Azerbaijan.
The interlocutors emphasized the importance of lasting and comprehensive settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict through peaceful negotiations. Ambassador Richter reiterated Germany's support for the mediation efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship.
In addition to the urgent humanitarian issues, the immediate repatriation of Armenian prisoners of war and other detainees was emphasized.
